Georgian Paste Ring

Georgian Paste Ring

Regular price $0.00
Sale price $0.00 Regular price

Once a rare Georgian foiled back paste brooch and converted into a ring. The raspberry red is absolutely delicious and the hand cut paste halo is all intact. The paste is set in silver with a rosey gold back. There are surface scratches but it is a very comfortable ring and presents full finger coverage. Converted with a 14k yellow and white solid gold shank, size 6 US, resizable.

In 1730 Georges-Frédéric Strass further developed a new type of glass that was high in lead oxide. This resulted in glass with a high reflective index, making a great diamond alternative known as Paste. It was highly popular in the Georgian era as it was easier for jewellers to work with and was more affordable than diamonds. Though it was more affordable, it wasn't necessarily cheap as each piece was hand cut and set with care.
